Dear Waseca Families,
As we enter this season of cooler temperatures, winter weather is just around the corner. Living in Minnesota means being ready for winter's challenges, especially as a school district. Our dedicated instructional and support staff, child care providers, transportation team, and custodial and maintenance crews all work diligently to ensure we’re prepared for the days when inclement weather impacts our routine.
Families can also help students stay comfortable and prepared for the colder weather. Please make sure your child has weather-appropriate clothing each day, including jackets, boots, snow pants, gloves or mittens, and hats. These items help students stay warm and enjoy outdoor activities, as recess and physical education will continue outside whenever possible. If you need assistance securing winter gear for your child, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s school.
When winter weather affects our ability to safely transport students, we rely on multiple sources to make informed decisions, including reports from the National Weather Service, feedback from local and state snow removal services, the wind chill chart, and on-the-ground assessments of road conditions in our community. Additionally, we collaborate with neighboring districts to gauge potential incoming weather.
In these situations, we aim to inform families of any changes by 6:30 a.m. when possible. If we’re able to make a decision the evening before, we’ll do so to provide as much advance notice as possible while maintaining confidence in the weather forecast. Communication will be sent out through multiple methods, including:
Local television and radio stations
Infinite Campus email, phone, and text
District social media
District website
Please ensure your family’s contact information in Infinite Campus is accurate and up-to-date to ensure you receive timely updates.
Waseca’s community encompasses city, county, interstate, and township roads, and our students may live within walking distance of their school or travel significant distances. In making school closure decisions, we prioritize student safety while understanding the importance of every school day. If you feel that conditions aren’t safe for your child to attend school on any given day, please contact your child’s school, and we will work with you to address any concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure a safe and productive winter season for all our students.

The three candidates for School Board recently met with some of the CIS Political Science students for a very valuable forum. The candidates provided us the opportunity to get to know them better as well as give their perspectives on education and Waseca Schools.
